  1. I grew up going to Myrtle every summer! Now that I'm old and married, we don't go very often because we like to explore different places whenever we get the chance to take a vacation. But Myrtle will always be near and dear to my heart (although wowie, what a tourist destination now!). I'll never forget one Myrtle vacation in particular. I was about 4, and I had gone down with my grandparents for a long weekend. I met a little friend on the beach and we started playing in the sand. Next thing I knew, I looked up and couldn't find either of my grandparents. I freaked out, thinking I had wandered away from our hotel or something so I just started walking down the beach. I walked and walked, looking for our hotel because I knew what the logo looked like. Finally, an older lady noticed that I was walking by myself and asked me if I was lost. I started crying and said yes, so she took me to the lifeguard stand and I knew the name of our hotel (The Wayward Winds) and our room number. The lifeguard drove me in his little car straight to my hotel and carried me up to our room, where my grandparents were kneeling beside the bed praying while the police officers were forming a search party. Turns out that my grandmother thought my grandfather was watching me and vice versa. What I took away from that experience is that it is so so important for children to know the name of the hotel when on vacation, and their room number, if possible! Whenever I go on vacation with kids, I drill it into their heads until they get so annoyed with me. But anywho, I'm glad you had a nice time - there's tons of stuff to do there!
